What is it?

Ok here, we could see on the left corner- a door, then, on the right corner another door. What about the one in the center? Is it another door?? Yes..this is another door, but this door, is kinda different from the two doors, at the side. It is actually a lift. I don't know whether you have seen this before, but, here in Kursk- most of the hospitals have such big lift, and is designed in a very ancient way. Did you see a chair there inside the lift? This chair is prepared for the nurse who is on duty in the lift on that day. This lift can accommodate about 10-11 people, but, the funniest thing is, the nurse allows only 5-6 people for each trip. This rule is applied especially to the students. Anyways, we the students, has very rare chance to take the lift, as they would asked us to use the staircase instead.

Big fat cat!!

Today, as I was walking to the trolley bus stop after class, I saw this big fat cat is resting on this metal thing ( don't know what is it called), but, it seems like there is steam coming up from it. No wonder the cat can just sit still there, even the temperature outside the street is -5C. Although I'm not a cat lover, but, yeah, seeing such a cool cat in such a cold weather, is really something very cool to share, isn't it?

I bruce lee you??

Haha..as I was walking out from my patient's room,i heard pauline was saying that she wanna bruce lee brian. At first I didn't get her,but as she repeated the second time,i just knew what she meant. Then brian replied her,by saying he could bruce lee pauline better than her. I then interrupted them, saying I could bruce lee better than both of them..and brian asked me can I kick? I then told him, kick?? Of cause I do. I then told then what I learnt in sokol- in one of the aerobics class. So I tried to demonstrate to both of them, and suddenly,my shoe flew away as I kick.. Haha..i was so embarrased and quickly pick my shoe up. Sien mei was smiling..i knew it was very funny..brian trying to comfort me,saying don't worry, no one will know..and he ended with a laughter.. What a day..but I thank God for the joy He put in me. Praise the Lord.

Ame's hamburger.

Look great isn't it? This was supposed to be my dinner, prepared by my sister. But I kept it for my lunch today. I was so hungry when I got back from class today, and thank God for the prepared lunch. I heat up the burger, and made a cup of chai se malakom..[tea with milk] mmm,it was so delicious. A perfect lunch, and I thank God for that.

Only half?

Today after gym,me,pauline, sam n jason went to bulanje.Wow, this is my 3rd apple strudel in bulanje. But,today I ordered extra stuff-expresso. As you can see the picture above,my goodness, when the waiter brought me my expressso,..hmm, perhaps,i could understand expresso is served in such little tiny cup..as most people regards it as coffee shot, but never in my life I would think it is only half a cup of the little small cup. My friends then try to be funny, asking me to bring along my water bottle next time, so that I can add in my water,at least I could have a full cup of expresso. Anyways,it has been an awesome day to me. My sheep text me and ask how's my saturday? Well, all I can say,my sat is great and so much blessed and I want to thank God for this day. Praise the Lord!

Eating alot...!!! is it because of winter??

I've been eating a lot lately, especially at night. Is it because of the changed of the season- to winter, that i easily feel hungry? or simply wanted to have a bite. Anyways, those are a few of the junk that i eat, eating them for breakfast, for lunch sometimes, for snack, and now supper.
I like eating the biscuits with чай с молоком -tea with milk ( or back in Malaysia, also is name as teh tarik).
Russia has their own nice biscuits. Here in Kursk, those ( in the picture) are the biscuits i always buy in the supermarket...there are others too that i like, perhaps shall take a snap of those biscuits that i meant the next time i buy.
Back in Malaysia, there are various type of biscuits you can get in the supermarket. I know one of them, which is my youngest sister's favorite - chipsmore.

One common thing you can find among my siblings - we like to eat biscuits.

Siam/Dacha/Evropa 's Strudel.

Today after exercise,my sister,Amelia, and I went to Siam have our lunch..this strudel disappointed me so much. The consistency is so different than any other strudel I tasted before. It was so dry,so hard, and so not fresh:-S. Is okay, tho wasn't really happy with it,me and my sister decided to go to FM.Chantal next time for strudel..can't wait for the day.

FROG-Fully Rely On God.

This is the origami of a frog. I learn to fold this from a website. What's the purpose of me,learning to fold this frogy? Well,i wanna fold this frog,as a gift to all my Passion Cell members, reminding us to fully rely on God in whatever we do. Today cell group was so awesome!and I thank God for His leading. We had worship throughout the whole cg session. During worship,we were actually standing in a circle, and during worshiping God,i shared this with my cell members. The way that we are standing in a circle...just like the story of Daniel's three friends, who were thrown into the blazing furnace. They were tied up and were thrown into the heart of the blazing fire, yet there was no sign of being hurt. From this story, i believe, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego leave everything to God, even though situation may be so overwhelming...and i'm pretty sure, at that moment, they were just focusing on God alone- which i defined it as worship too. I thank God that i have this experience of restoration, refreshing during worship especially things just went upside down for me, circumstances and situations that simply too overwhelming me...is like some kind of transfusion, where a supernatural exchanged occur in me. God's peace, joy, rest will some how replaced and filled my heart, while all my distress is then eradicated by His gifts. Isn't great? ...then sings my soul...how great is my God, how great is my God. Praise the LORD.

a note from surgery teacher

Today, as usual, i woke up, washed up, took my breakfast, and the off to class in волокно. I'm having surgery cycle now. We waited for mashrut for some minutes, and then, about 40 minutes time, we reached the лесная болница ( Lesnaya Hospital). Then we put on our lab-coat and went in to the department. I saw a few of my groupmates were actually standing near the corridor, waiting for our teacher. I then hung my winter jacket in the so called changing room and then join my groupmates, waiting for our teacher. Suddenly, one of my groupmates, shouted and everyone is looking at her, while she was reading word by word the notes that our teacher wrote to us, that was pasted on her door. It says, that we are free for today, and come back on Friday, at 930 for class; topic, the colon disease and the anal disease.
Wow, everyone then started to pack their stuffs, get the jackets from the changing room and leave the hospital for hostel. What a day...~~

Our washing machine.

This is our(me and my unit and my sister,Amelia's washing machine). What is so special about this little machine that I wanna share? Well, last week, this machine 'fell ill',and simply cannot drain the water after washing or spinning. We were kinda disturbed by it,as we could not do our laundry. Clothes started to pile up like mountain. I started to wash my clothes everyday manually.. Sam,my roommate and I even tried to open the engine part of the machine, to check if we could find anything wrong there. Hmm, since we are doing medicine,i doubt we could find anything..practically no idea at all,we then close the part again. If someone were to ask us where is the gallbladder located in our body,i'm sure we could answer it,but where is the part for draining,.ops.. So we decided to call the person who is specialized in this. Cristina,my unit mate from Sochi, rang the man,and told him the problem. Today, finally, the machine is back to work. Wanna know what's the etiological factor? Is just because of the one rouble coin that block the drainage. One rouble for four hundreds rouble..wow!too much!! Anyways,we learnt our lesson,to check our pockets before dumping the clothes into the machine. Is a good ending afterall, isn't it? Give thanks in all circumstances.. Always cultivate a thankful spirit-giving thanks for the good things in life, and looking for ways in which God brings blessing out of even the most difficult experiences.

Renovation

This is my hostel's lobby. These are those stuffs for the renovation. Since last year, renovation has been non stop in the hostel. In a way, this is good- they are doing their best to beautify the hostel and to provide a comfortable place for us to stay,i believed..but on the other hand, this is not so good for us, the students. Sometimes I just can't understand why must they choose such a time as this to do all this..isn't it good if they finish up this renovating work during the summer break.. Anyways,i just want to thank God for everything..afterall,all things God works for the good of those who love Him..and let's just learn to give thanks to Him in all circumstances, for God makes things beautiful in His time.

Apple strudel (Яблочный штрудель)

What is an apple strudel?
Apple strudel is an Austrian pastry of apples, sugar, raisins, spice, etc in thin strudel dough or filo pastry . Apple strudel (Apfelstrudel) is a traditional Viennese strudel.

Recently, I've been visiting many restaurants in Kursk that sells apple strudel. Among them are, AMALFI, BULANJE, EVROPACHESKII, and also the ITALIANCHESKOE CAFE. Each of the restaurant presented the apple strudel in their own special ways.
I haven't got the chance to take any pictures of it, perhaps, i will go again and try again, and will take a snap of it.
It seems like there are still other restaurant in town, that are selling the strudel too. Me and my sister, Amelia, had make a point to taste all strudels in town. This shall be one of the plan of the year before i leave Kursk for good, next year.

I surf through the net on apple strudel, and found ways of making apple strudel. Some of the recipe seems easy, while others are kinda complicated.
However, i found one site on how to make apple strudel, and it is easy.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 cups of sifted flour
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 1 small egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons of oil (not olive oil)
  • 3/4 cups of warm water

For the apple filling

  • 1 cup of melted butter
  • 4 medium cooking apples, washed
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon of Allspice
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of finely chopped walnuts
  • 2 teaspoons of grated lemon peel
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • ¾ cup of fine dry bread crumbs (you can make your own from two slices of bread)
  • 5 cups of raisins (optional)
  • 1/3 cup milk

Steps

Make the Dough

  1. Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl and dig a well in the center.
  2. Add the egg and oil to the flour and mix well; you can either mix with your hands or use an electric mixer.
  3. Add the water to the bowl, while stirring continuously; keep mixing until soft dough is formed.
  4. Turn the dough, which will be sticky at this point, onto a lightly floured pastry board.
  5. Hold the dough 20 inches above the board and slam it on the board about 100-120 times. As you progress, the dough should become smooth and stretchy.
  6. Knead the dough and shape into a disc. Brush the top of dough with some oil.
  7. Place the dough in a bowl and cover with a damp towel, then leave it to rest for 30 minutes as you prepare the filling.

Make the Filling

  1. Core and pare the apples. Cut the apples into slices about 1/8 in. thick and put in a bowl with Vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar; toss lightly to coat. Set aside for half an hour.
  2. Mix the white sugar, cinnamon, Allspice and the remaining brown sugar together in a bowl; put this mixture to one side.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet and toss dry bread crumbs in the butter, until they are coated properly.

Stretch the Dough

  1. Cover a table (around 48 in. by 30 in.) with a clean cloth, letting the edges hang off.
  2. Sprinkle the cloth with about ½-1 cup of flour, keeping the majority of it in the center.
  3. Place the dough in the center of the cloth and shape into a square (if needed, sprinkle more flour under the dough so it doesn't stick).
  4. Brush off any flour left on top of the dough, and brush the top with some cooking oil.
  5. Reach under dough to it's center (the dough should rest on backs of hands) and lift slightly, being very careful not to tear the dough. Gently pull arms in opposite directions, and lower dough to table as you walk around table, pulling each side evenly (do not pull too much in one area). Keep stretching dough until it is as thin as tissue paper.
  6. Cut off the thick outer edges of dough with some clean scissors, and allow the stretched dough to dry for no more than 10 minutes.

Roll and Bake the Strudel

  1. Brush the dough with ¼ cup of the melted butter.
  2. Sprinkle the buttery bread crumbs in the center of the dough, making sure to keep the sides free so they can be folded over the filling.
  3. Place the seasoned apple slices over the crumbs, and then sprinkle the lemon peel over apples.
  4. Spread the chopped nuts and raisins evenly across the dough. Sprinkle the spiced sugar mixture over the fruit and nuts, and then drizzle the filling with ½ cup of melted butter.
  5. Fold the dough on three sides so it covers the filling.
  6. Roll the dough over filling, starting at the narrow end; the strudel should now look like a large jelly role.
  7. Cut the Strudel in half, and gently roll both halves onto a baking sheet.
  8. Brush the excess flour off of each roll, then pinch the ends of each strudel together, so the filling won't ooze out while it's baking. Brush the top and sides with melted butter.
  9. Bake in the oven at 350° for 30-45 minutes, or until golden brown. Baste and brush about 4 times during baking with melted butter.
  10. Place the strudel onto a cooling rack. Once cool, cut in two-inch slices and serve warm.

back in action to write...( i forgot my password, actually, but then..as i tried for several times..yay...finally g0t it right ...thank God for that..)

coming back to kursk, new semester, but...

This is the day when i reached Moscow- on my way back to Kursk. Thank God for safe journey.
Well, is a little bit different this time...but, i believe soon, I'll be okay.
Thanking God for His strength...
Missing dear dear...however, i believe...God will take care of us, because He cares for us so much. Is in His promise- cast all ur cares unto Him, for He cares for you 1 Pet 5:7
Look at the creation, look at the wonders, look at this picture which i snapped - how beautiful, how wonderful...is He... God is faithful.. His promise shall not fade.
Trust , trust in the Lord, lean not on ur own understanding, but, in all your ways, acknowledge Him.

lesson day.

Today is my second day of medical psychology class. As usual in the morning, gotta drag my self up from my comfy bed and get ready for class. I got to practically ski to the bus stop as it was very slippery outside. I don't know why today the weather is so cold. Waiting for the bus to iskra - the place where the Pscyhiatry Hospital situated was kinda depressing...standing in the cold, waiting for the bus, and seeing people spitting sputum (eventhough with such bad cough, the man was still holding cigarrete and smoke)....ahrghh, i hate that odor.
But i thank God, because at that moment when my mind started to so called complained...God brings back my attention to His Words..."give thanks in all circumstances"
So fine, i just switch my mind towards the notes, that we gotta prepare for class.
And it is so true that, when we stop complaining, things get smoother...the bus came and i'm more resisted towards surroundings irritants.

Today in the class, my teacher brought 3 psycho patients to our classroom, and asked us to test them with attention test. There are 4 of them; (Shutle test, Shutle-Gorbov test, Proof- reader test, and the serial countdown test).
Well, the first patient that we came across is with schizoprenia. We actually saw him before last semester. Overall, his performance towards the test was normal. I don't actually know, whether how accurate is the result, coz, he seems to be so used to the test, he even knew how the test should be conducted.
The second patient was only 18 years old. He is with Schizoprenia accompanied with mental retardation. I hardly hear what he said, coz, he seems to have problem with his articulation. He didn't really like to be tested tho; and kept telling us that he is tired. However, when i asked him other questions, as in his favorite passtime, and about his friends, and so on...he seems enjoy.
The third patient, i should say he is kinda hyper. He talks alot and very responsive. He even asked us whether do we have cigarrette...and even commented, that how he can work with us if we do not have any cigarrete to offer him.
At the end of the day...i was very tired. Being the person who asked the patients (curation) and conducting the test... i just need to pay my fullest attention towards their response and their anwers as well.
Nevertherless, i learnt alot...it is definetly not easy to be a psychologist or psychiatrist. These people needs a lot of patience and dedication to handle such patients.

Thank God for this opportunity to work with these people today. I thank God for His protection!

Valentine's day ~09

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on Feb 14th by many people throughout the world. In the West, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending valentine's cards, presenting flowers or offering confectionery.
This is the abstract taken from the Wikipedia about Valentine’s Day.
But, that is not the only day lovers express their love for each other, instead it is a everyday thing...you may not necessary express your love by sending cards, flowers or etc, but the lifestyle and the commitment you have for each other matters most.
However, i thank God for this day.
Today me and dear went out together. We did some shopping at manesh. Dear bought me a pair of jeans and a shirt. Really appreciate his gifts. Thanks dear!
Then, we proceed to pushkinskii to have lunch. I want to buy him lunch. So we went to the 2nd floor of pushkinskii to have our meal. There was one incidence happened in the restaurant… which was very embarrassing. Only God, dear and I knew about it. Sshhhhhhhh, it is gonna be a secret.
Really thank God for dear. Although we did nothing much on this day, but I believed the time we spent together is worthwhile and ya, thank God it has been a blessed day.
Thank God for God is love, and because of His love in us, we can love one another and tolerate with one another. Praise the Lord.

the бабушка(s)..

Today I went to the old folk’s home. This trip was organized by the social ministry in the church. This is my first visit there. When we reached there, the director of the home guided us to the grannies sitting at the living hall. We divided ourselves into 2 groups. The first group remained at the first floor. While the second group (I was in the 2nd group) we were brought up to the 2nd floor. We chat with them and ya, pretty enjoyable. The babushka gave me a present, emm, something like handcraft. She sewed the postcard together and makes it like a lantern. It’s very beautiful…I really appreciate it. We chat for about 2 hours and then is time to say goodbye. That’s not the end, we’ll be going on next Friday and this coming visit, by God’s grace, we shall make something special for them. Praise the Lord. I believe it is God’s great love that motivates us to love them as well.

a break for everything~

It is winter break now. Time really flies. Well, just want to thank God for seeing me through in my exams. Basically I have only one paper after I knew that I got aftomat for my ozz subject. Praise God for that! The only subject I was preparing for the exam was the ENT ( Ear Nose and Throat). Well, during preparation, I just want to thank God for His strength and peace He laid in my heart. I thank God for His love; His faithfulness makes me rest fully on Him. There was some internal conflict between me and my friend during the preparation. We hardly talk. I was very upset with it. I checked myself, dunno where was my mistakes…I leave it to God to help me. Thank God for His comfort, that just pushes me through this time. I knew He will fix everything perfectly according to His time.
